Camping, Cycling and Crabbing (3C)

Preparation

We had planned this camping a week earlier, so that we prepare properly. We bought some camping stuffs like tents, cooking set, sleeping bag and others at Decathlon, Marina Mall. You can get all the adventures stuffs over here. Halim bought swimming suit and fins.

We went to Al-Ghanim Marine near to Al-Kout Mall in Fahaheel to buy fishing rod, snorkel gear and spear fishing gun. In term of quality, it is better with reasonable price.

The polystyrene ice-box (white colour) we bought at Al-Kout fishing market at KD 1.25. You can also buy ice cube here.

Al-Kout Fishing Market

The fish market in Friday's early morning very crowded with people who are getting their weekly food supply.

We bought fish and squid for fishing baits here.

The fish market area very clean and dry.

The price for a full of fish in the red basket (~ 15kg) about KD 3. Some of them buy the basket of fish and resell it at the small scale (per kg).

Fresh fish

I'm ready!

We drove from Mangaf to Khairan about 74km toward the south (~ 1 hour drive) with 2 4WDs.

The Khairan beach near to Al-Zour Power Plant.

We agreed to set up our camp under the bridge next to abandoned KOC Rest-house. Good camping spot; shaded area with nice scenery.

The beach very nice but rubbish make pain on our eyes. We collected all trash and put into plastic bags that we brought along. This is all about attitude!

Halim, Shai, Imros and I
Imros came with his son
We went to friday prayer at Masjid Walid Al-Marzuq, about 5km from our campsite. It just opened last year (2015)

After prayer, we prepared lunch underneath bridge. Our menu, fried fish with rice. Yummy!!

I brought 2 cooking stoves that i bought in Decathlon.

 Halim is our master chef.

The sea-breeze blew gently and made us felt sleepy.
Hj Nazlan and Che Noor came to our campsite at 3.00pm. They brought the special crab catchers from Malaysia, what we called "Bento" or "Tangkoi". They teaches us how to use them.

We need to put a fish in the middle of bento as bait.

The bento will be tied up with coloured rope (visible) with empty plastic at the end of rope as floater. Bento will land on the seafloor.

We need to check the bento every hour. We got at least get one crab per bento.

Normally in this region, you may get Blue crab (Big size - 4-6" body length).

Hj Nazlan cooked "Maggi Ketam" (Crab Instants Noodle). Very delicious and tasty. The crabs so fresh.

Shai prepared black coffee (Kopi Baling). Marvellous!

Imros and Shai enjoyed their Crab Noodle.

We spent time chit chat among ourselves, what the next plan for coming winter season. Now the temperature gradually decrease, at night it was about 25 - 28 degree C.

My "Oleng" underneath the bridge.

Syukri and his daughters came on the late evening but luckily they didn't miss the "Maggi Ketam".

We took an initiative to collect all the rubbish that been dumped by previous visitors. The broken glass (bottle) on beach may hurt somebody especially kids. Beware.

Our campsite at night

Syukri, the most senior malaysian who has been here about 10 years.
Che Nor and Hj Nazlan continued their mission; fishing at night.

That night, full moon, you can see clearly the rig at night. Amazing. Subhanallah.
Syukri and his kids having fun grilled the potatoes.

We slept at 11.00pm.

We spent a marvellous moment see the sunrise at Khiran Beach. Speechless.
On the another side of campsite, i saw an animal, I though it was a dog but a fennec fox (Vulpes Zerda),  with large ears and long tail (white spot).

We had our breakfast at 7.00am. Fried mutton, fried fish and rice.

Cycling Time

After breakfast, Shai and I cycled around Al-Khiran about 18km within 1.45 hours. We cycled from Campsite to Al-Khiran Resort.
