Friday, 21 Oct 2016

Sulaibiya

Sulaibiya is a small town in Al Jahra Governorate, Kuwait. It holds the record for the highest temperature in Asia and third highest in the world.

Sulaibiya has two Industrial Areas containing several construction materials industries and a Residential Area consisting of 10 blocks. Towards the end of Sulaibiya you approach Sulabikat which is closer to the Kuwaiti grand cemetery.

Cycling Time

Shai and I, this week joined Desert Biking Club Kuwait (DBCK) cycled in Sulaibiya area, about 25km to the west of Kuwait City. I been communicated with Anthony Burrows, DBCK last week to join this ride.

RV

Time:
RV at 6.45am but unfortunately we couldn't make on time, looking for RV location (just two and half month in Kuwait). We reached there at 7.05am, everybody waiting for us, OMG!

Location:
Go west along the Sixth Ring Road past 360 Mall, Farwaniya, the big Stadium etc. Keep a look out for the 25km green distance marker in the centre of the road

After turning right into an open area, and after a short distance, you will come to a roundabout. Turn left her, go about 100m and park on the right.

Total 7 Riders:

  • Anthony Burrow
  • Robin
  • Nicola
  • Mohamed (Babak)
  • Ahmad
  • Shai
  • Aswade

ROUTE:

Moving time 2 hours (Not 8hrs - forgot to stop) for 20.6km.

Terrains:

It covered a variety of terrain: concrete, tarmac, scrubland, desert sand, mostly hard but some soft

The landscape is a mix of desert rural and urban with various trees, shrubs and birdlife, farms and camping areas but also warehouses, scrappy yards and a shanty town

Anthony gave briefing on today's route
We need to pass under construction tunnel, cross the road (Route 6). The workers stop work for a while to let us pass it first.
Tarmac section with trees along the road.
Shai with his B-Twin full suspension bike.
Selfie skill, with one hand
Offroad section - We need to cross several bumps

Green section
Yards

Cowshed
Yards

I saw many bird nest on this area. It made me remember on Arak Tree (Meswak or Toothbrush tree) (Salvadora persica) in Hadramout, Yemen.

Robin's tires punctured twice. Babak very helpful, he changed the inner tube.

The second puncture, Robin used his anti-puncture spray to plug the hole without changing inner tube. After sprayed, you need to spin the tire several times. Very effective and convenient to bring.

Continue offroad

Anthony, Nicola and Robin, on your mark, get set, go!
Ahmad with his TREK. We are TREK buddy.

Stop for awhile
